In 2014 I did an Oxfam Adventure Challenge, raising money for an amazing global charity and then self-funding a trip to one of their operations in Tanzania. The trip included a 6 day climb up Mount Kilimanjaro and was one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done.

Ten years later (and little known to me!) my tent buddy from that trip Wayne Simpson now runs a charity from his home in Canberra — Rise Above. The charity has a more local focus and aims at providing for people and their families suffering with the emotional and financial costs of cancer. This can include assistance in paying for medications, treatments, fuel for travel to appointments, or even putting food on the table for those that are unable to work.

I couldn’t be more proud of Wayne for not only choosing to support people with cancer locally, but also taking the initiative to get involved in the nuts & bolts of funding that mission; not a small task in anyone’s books.

As a way to get the word out about Rise Above and raise some funds, Wayne is helping host his own adventure challenge – this time on an iconic Australian mountain, Kosciusko NSW.

Myself and a small group are raising donations for the next month that go directly to supporting those affected by cancer and their families, and come with a fully tax-deductible receipt. As a team we’ll then be self-funding a trip in late March for a ‘Climb Against Cancer’ up Mount Kosciusko.

Any and all donations are hugely appreciated, and on behalf of Wayne and myself — thanks ya bluddy LEGEND ❤
