Over 2400 locals are diagnosed with cancer each year, this number does not include the family unit that is also impacted - emotionally and financially.

I've been fortunate enough to be chosen to take on the Climb Against Cancer walk, to challenge myself, and to show my support for others battling cancer. I'll be tackling a challenging 23 km trek across the top of Mount Kosciuszko, but all I’m asking you to do is donate so that no one faces the daunting challenges of cancer alone.

When I was diagnosed the second time round with cancer, I was provided a Rise Above pamphlet. I did not think I would require their financial services as I thought we were in a good enough position. However, 6 months into treatment, the cost of living started to pinch so we reached out to Rise Above. They support patients financially with the cost of cancers. Although I'm so fortunate that 95% of my cancer treatment is free, there are costs of associated medications that aren't covered (for example osteoporosis injections (as my cancer had spread to my bones), vitamins, and now recently steroids and anti nausea medications to assist with my new chemo). Not having to worry about the invoices from the pharmacy every month is one less worry for me, and other local patients.

I have also set myself a goal of paying back the charities that have helped me during my cancer journey, and Rise Above is one of them. So if you're able, a few dollars towards this local charity will go a long way to helping cancer patients like myself :)
