A quiet, loving person, Lanie was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and nurse. She possessed boundless creative talents, including sketching, painting, sculpting, bookbinding, leatherwork, sewing, knitting, cross-stitch, and doll making. Though her prolific artistic output was sadly restricted over the past decade by macular degeneration, and she was later diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, her kindness and creativity touched more lives than she ever knew.
2400 people are diagnosed with cancer in the Canberra Queanbeyan-Palerang region each year, this number does not include the family unit that is also impacted - emotionally and financially. Rise Above makes life a little easier for over 800 of those local people undergoing cancer treatment by providing financial, practical and emotional support. All donations to Rise Above stay local and go directly to patients and families struggling with the cost of cancer.
